God's Presence In Us

Scripture: John l6:13-l5...'But when the Spirit of truth comes, He will
guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own authority. But
He will speak whatever He hears, and He will tell you things that are to
come.' He will glorify Me, for He will receive from Me and will declare it
to you. All that the Father has in Mine. Therefore I said that He will take
what is Mine and will declare it to you.'
Throughout the Bible, the Holy Spirit is called Comforter, Counselor,
Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ, Spirit of Wisdom, Advocate and Spirit of
Truth. So, the Holy Spirit, is indeed an active member (facet) of the
Trinity.
Through the Book of Acts, we see many times the Holy Spirit working
powerfully through Jesus' followers. In John l6, Jesus tells us that
when He physically leaves the earth, His Holy Spirit will come and
speak for Jesus. Instead of the limitations of Jesus' body who could
only be in one place at one time, through His Holy Spirit, His Presence
could be present with each one who received Him every second of
everyday as well as otherw who have received His Presence into their
lives around the world.
As I thought more to see what we learn about God's Presence through
the Holy Spirit from this passage of scripture, the Holy Spirit of Truth will
not speak on His own, but will speak whatever He hears from the
Father. The Spirit is another facet of the Trinity of God...listening to one
another and speaking as one.
And, then, I thought, if the Spirit is listening to the Father and Jesus
and not speaking on His own, what about me? What about us? Have
we stopped from our busy schedules to listen to God's Presence in us?
Have we even noticed how Jesus is always with us through His Spirit
each and every day? As we pray, do we do all the talking or do we
listen before we speak?
It is easy to fill our hearts with activities and responsibilities and
entertainment, an over-flowing 'to-do' list, family commitments, helping
others, among other things. These easily over-whelm our days. There
is no time left to listen to God's voice. And, while the Spirit can speak in

dramatic ways, it is usual for the Lord to speak to us through the 'still-
small voice'. How?

Try to be intentional about stopping and take the time to speak to God
as a person. He is not some God out there but a God who has come to
live and dwell with you and in you. When things arise through the day,
take time to speak to Him as a dear friend. He will be ever present with

you and an ever friend when you need His help. His power will work in
you and through you as His Presence is made manifest in your life.
Prayer: Spirit of Truth who makes Jesus present to us each day, help
us be willing to listen to you as you listen to the Father and Son, who
are also one. Help us so we can become intentional about stopping,
quieting our brains and hearts, and listen for the Spirit of God to speak
and to guide us. In Jesus Holy Name...
Amen.
